Yoga therapy for chronic back pain: what a guided course changes
Anjali Nair, C-IAYT30 Jun 2026 5 min read
Chronic back pain usually involves weak deep core muscles, tight hip flexors and years of guarded movement. Yoga therapy addresses all three, but only when postures are selected for your diagnosis.
A disc-related pain pattern needs extension-biased practice, while a facet joint pattern often needs the opposite. This is why self-taught yoga sometimes makes back pain worse.
What a structured course includes
An assessment of your movement patterns, a progressive 8 to 12 week sequence, breathing practices that downregulate the nervous system, and home practice guidance with regular reviews.
On Sehat Planet you can book guided yoga therapy courses online or at partner centres, taught by certified yoga therapists working alongside physicians.
